Do I need a partner to join the studio?
Absolutely not! As you dance around the floor, you will meet people
from every walk from life. Some are here with a partner and many are
not. There are some couples who even take lessons separately due to
their personal schedules. No matter what you situation, a fabulous
instructor will guide you.
Do I need any dance experience?
Absolutely not! It is sometimes more difficult to "undo" some previous
dance knowledge. We teach a very well rounded social curriculum and
enjoy instruction anyone from the beginning basics. We take pride in
introducing the wonderful world of ballroom dancing to all that enter
our facility.
Where will I use this type of dancing ?
Everywhere! The type of dancing that Fred Astaire Dance Studios teaches
is for use in any social dance situation. Although many students come
to us initially to learn for a special occasion, for example, a
wedding, cruise, bar mitzvah, Doctor's ball, etc., they find many other
times for dance in their personal lives. Some dance at picnics, on the
beach, at Summerfest, birthday parties, in their living room and the
list goes on & on. Until you take the first step to learn, it is
hard to imagine the many times you will "step out" into a dance
situation.
Can I focus on 1-2 dances at a time?
We discourage this type of learning! All of the dances at Fred Astaire
Dance Studios are interrelated; it is just as easy to learn 3-4 dances
as it is to learn 1-2. There are some very basic elements that you will
learn on your very first lesson that will show you how easy it is to
learn more than one may think possible. Whenever you find yourself in a
dance situation, you will definitely want to know how to dance a
variety of steps in a variety of dances.
Why should I take "private" instruction?
Private instruction is the fastest and most cost-effective way to learn
ballroom dancing! Line dancing, ballet, tap, jazz, etc., are a totally
different style of dancing, all of these can be danced alone. Ballroom
dancing is partner dancing, whether you learn with a teach as your
"learning" partner or a significant other, private instruction is the
best way to learn. With private instruction you will learn at your own
pace and not be trailing behind in a "class" format or have that awful
feeling of being held back from progressing forward. Our studio
receives many clients after they attempt to learn in class form
elsewhere and than come running to us to get good, solid private
instruction.
How long before I am comfortable in a dance situation?
That depends on you! Everyone has a different sense of comfort.
However, this is a school that teaches an art. It is virtually
impossible to learn how to play the piano or guitar in just a couple of
hours, no matter how good you desire to be. You will not be "socially"
comfortable in ballroom dancing in 2 lessons either. We will welcome
any challenge and you can expect nothing but the best and quickest
results from all of the instructors.
